This review is devoted to the section “International Protection of the Rights of Children and Family” which was organized and held within the 66th Annual Meeting of the Russian Association of International Law on June 29—30, 2023 in the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation. The general theme of the Annual Meeting — “International law in modern geopolitical conditions” — predetermined the topic of this section, which was devoted to international and national mechanisms for ensuring the safety of children and families in new geopolitical conditions, various aspects of protecting the rights of vulnerable categories of citizens.
The review reflects the main points of the speakers, whose speeches were devoted to the problems of family protection by international law, the search for a balance of mechanisms for the protection of certain vulnerable categories, such as women and children, the legal regulation of the institution of surrogacy at the international and national levels, and the prospects for the application of universal international treaties on issues of family law, understanding the category of morality and moral guidelines (traditional values) as the basis of public order in public international and private international law.
