This article analyzes the legal and linguistic requirements for the drafting of bills and other regulations in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The article is an analytical work in the field of foreign legislation and comparative law, which aims to achieve the following research goal: assessment of the linguistic requirements of legal nature that are imposed in the United Kingdom on drafters of normative acts. The objectives of the study include reviewing the relevant requirements, providing examples of their proper implementation, and analyzing them in terms of effectiveness, completeness and consistency.

The methods used in the context of this study include: documentary research and analysis of current requirements in the area under consideration; application of tools of legal, comparative legal and legal-historical analysis; formal-logical method, including analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, abstraction and generalization, analogy and comparison; the method of linguistic (language) analysis, which includes a comparison of vocabulary, syntax, punctuation and grammatical structures of four languages: Russian, English, German and Spanish; the method of interpretation and clarification, which is used in obtaining data on the rules of law, on law enforcement actions and other facts indicating the implementation of legal norms, as well as on the content of legal practice; the method of analogy, which demonstrates the similarity of the process of drafting the text of a legal act with the process of teaching and studying foreign languages.

The results of the study are expressed in the conclusion and include an assessment of the legal and linguistic requirements when drafting the text of a legal act in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in terms of the basics of semantics, semiotics, completeness and logical sequence. The approaches of the British drafters of normative acts to the drafting processes are revealed, links with the philosophy of Ockham and the ideas of scientific pragmatism are traced as well.
